Tsubasa Hanekawa

羽川翼

Class Rep-chan

Biography

Tsubasa Hanekawa is Koyomi Araragi's classmate and class president at Naoetsu Private High School. She usually wears her hair in two braids tied with a cat-pattern ribbon and is almost always seen in her school uniform. Araragi calls her "the class president of all class presidents," while Tsubasa's own refrain is, "I don't know everything, I just know what I know." She lives with her stepfather and stepmother.

Story spoilers

Tsubasa's biological mother dies by suicide shortly after giving birth to her, and her workaholic stepfather later dies from overwork; her current parents are subsequent spouses. Before Bakemonogatari, stress surrounding her family contributes to her possession by the spirit of a dead cat, producing her bakeneko form. The problem later resurfaces, and that form reveals Tsubasa's feelings for Araragi. In Tsubasa Tiger, another supernatural encounter accompanies a new crisis in which Black Hanekawa takes over whenever Tsubasa sleeps.
