Naoyuki Okazaki is Tomoya's father, and their relationship has become deeply strained by repeated conflict. He turns to alcohol and smoking and frequently argues with his son, while later treating Tomoya with a distant politeness that feels more like the behavior of a stranger than family.
Story spoilers
After Tomoya's mother Atsuko dies, Naoyuki raises him alone. During one argument he slams Tomoya into a wall and dislocates his right shoulder; the injury eventually prevents Tomoya from continuing basketball.
