Biography

Gintoki Sakata is a silver-haired samurai living in an age that no longer has much use for samurai. He lives with Kagura and Shinpachi and takes on odd jobs to pay their rent. He takes pride in the old Bushido code and is obsessed with sweets and Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Story spoilers

During the Joi War, Gintoki became famous and feared as the "White Devil" for his swordsmanship. The loss of many friends and allies in that conflict contributes to his later aversion to needless bloodshed.
