Asuka Langley Souryuu

Asuka's mother, Kyoko Zeppelin Souryuu, suffers a severe breakdown after an Eva-related experiment and later dies by suicide on the day Asuka is selected as an Eva pilot. Asuka vows never to cry again, and the experience contributes to her hostility toward dolls and things she regards as doll-like, particularly Rei, though she remains willing to cooperate with Rei when duty requires it. Her aggression unintentionally hurts people she likes, pushing them away and deepening her loneliness and self-resentment.
