Serial Experiments Lain

Fourteen-year-old Lain Iwakura lives between an ordinary physical world of people and culture and the digital realm known as the Wired. After a classmate dies by suicide, Lain receives an email apparently sent by the dead girl, who claims to have abandoned her body while continuing to exist online. The message forces Lain to confront the possibility that the boundary between physical life and the Wired is far less secure than it appears. As her attention turns toward that connection, the familiar distinction between real-world identity and virtual existence begins to blur around her.
