Hell’s Paradise

Near the end of the Edo period, Gabimaru is a condemned shinobi who was once regarded as the strongest fighter in Iwagakure. He is offered a path out of death row: recover the legendary Elixir of Life from a mysterious island said to resemble the Buddhist pure land Sukhavati, and he will be pardoned.

Gabimaru accepts because freedom could allow him to reunite with his wife. He travels to the island under the supervision of executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, alongside other condemned criminals pursuing the same prize. What awaits them is far stranger than an ordinary expedition. The island contains unknown creatures, unsettling human-made statues, and enigmatic hermits who rule the land. To earn his freedom, Gabimaru must survive both his fellow seekers and an environment whose dangers are still largely unknown.
