Hashire Melos (1992)

Melos travels from Messina to Syracuse to buy a ritual sword for his sister's wedding and befriends a gifted sculptor. When the suspicious king condemns Melos to death, he asks for three days to return home for the ceremony, with his new friend agreeing to remain behind as a substitute if Melos fails to return.
