Osamu Dezaki was an anime director known for a highly distinctive visual language built around split screens, dramatic lighting, Dutch angles and pastel freeze frames he called "postcard memories." His directing credits include Tomorrow's Joe, Tomorrow's Joe 2, Dear Brother and Clannad: The Motion Picture, and he served as chief director on later episodes of The Rose of Versailles.
