Yona is the sixteen-year-old princess and sole heir of the Kouka Kingdom. Raised in luxury and accustomed to getting what she wants, she begins as a spoiled young royal who dislikes her crimson hair. She has a crush on her cousin and childhood friend Soo-won, while her other childhood friend, General Son Hak, serves as her bodyguard and frequently irritates her.
Story spoilers
Major upheavals eventually push Yona to become stronger and more concerned with the people of Kouka.
Soo-won kills Yona's father in front of her in order to take the throne, forcing Yona to flee the castle with Hak. Yona is later revealed to be the reincarnation of the red dragon, and she eventually confesses her love to Hak.
