Story spoilers
The fire also killed their parents. Yayoi later discovers that a nightbreed has been controlling Katsumi. Katsumi dies after using the last of the nightbreed's power to give Yayoi her soul and face. Yayoi then joins the N.O.S. to investigate and eliminate nightbreed threats, and Katsumi's soul within her gives Yayoi immunity from a vampire's bite.
