Yan Xiao is a human cultivator with the Three Thousand Star Constitution who was once regarded as a genius of the Xiao family before losing his cultivation prowess. He aims to reclaim his former glory and ultimately reach the rank of Dou Di, training through the Flame mantra Dou Qi method.

His lost power is eventually traced to a ring left by his mother that houses the legendary alchemist Yao Lao, who had been drawing on Yan Xiao's power to recover. After the draining stops, Yan Xiao uses Yao Lao's knowledge in pursuing revenge against relatives who mistreated him after his mother's death.
