Watahiko appears in “Cotton Changeling” as a succession of identical children connected to a strange green substance born to Aki and Yasuke. The children grow with extraordinary speed and seem to share knowledge among themselves.
Story spoilers
Watahiko is actually a fungal mushi that replaces an embryo inside a pregnant woman. After birth it establishes a nearby base and produces childlike extensions that gather energy through a shared mind. Later in their life cycle, the children release spores that can create more of the base form; exposure to fire causes the base to change and the children to disappear.
