Utsunomiko

Utsunomiko is a young man born with a small horn on his forehead and abandoned by his mother because of it. An elderly shūgenja woman raises him, naming him “Divine Child of the Heavens” and teaching that his horn represents the union of heaven and earth.

Raised in the wilderness in the ways of Shugendō, he later uses his spiritual powers to help impoverished villagers. His anger at self-serving rulers eventually brings him into conflict with the Imperial Court and makes him a champion of the oppressed.
