Story spoilers
Guren was once forcibly controlled through the Baku-kon spell, an incident that left the other Shinshō distrustful of him. Later, Chishiki no Gūji corrupts him, and he almost leaves Masahiro to die. At the anime's end, Masahiro revives him, but Guren's memories of Masahiro are sealed away. He remains under Seimei's orders to protect Masahiro.
