Biography
Tomoe Yukishiro is the eldest daughter of a low-ranking samurai bureaucrat who serves the Tokugawa Shogunate. Her younger brother Enishi views her as a surrogate parent. Tomoe keeps diaries because she finds it difficult to express her thoughts and emotions openly.
Story spoilers
Tomoe's reserve prevents her fiancé Kiyosato from understanding how deeply she loves him; he is later killed by Hitokiri Battousai, Himura Kenshin. Tomoe subsequently approaches Kenshin while concealing her connection to Kiyosato, eventually marries him while planning his death, but falls in love with him and sacrifices her life to save him, leaving the second scar on his cheek.
