Takeru Yamato is the first human born and raised in Ismo. A notorious troublemaker but respected leader among peers, Yamato encounters the mech Susanoo and uses its destructive power against enemies attacking the village. When the villagers banish Susanoo and blame it for their misfortune, Yamato leaves with a best friend to see the world.
Story spoilers
After defeating Orochi, Yamato leaves Susanoo resting in the caves. In After War, Yamato is called again to pilot Susanoo when Shuranoo appears. In the end, Yamato and Oto willingly intend to sacrifice themselves by flying into the sun to defeat Tsukiyomi. Before they reach the melting point, Mikazuchi appears, says that he will pilot Susanoo and tells Yamato and Oto to live. Susanoo then flies into the sun, destroying itself and Tsukiyomi.
