Takashi Natsume

Takashi Natsume is a 15-year-old who can see ayakashi and comes into possession of his grandmother Reiko's Book of Friends, a collection of contracts binding spirits she defeated. Because he resembles Reiko, ayakashi frequently mistake him for her or pursue him for the book. Natsume resolves to return each contracted name to its owner, a draining process.

He is accompanied by Madara, or Nyanko-sensei, who protects him.
