Tachikoma
タチコマBiography
Tachikoma are small, blue, spider-like AI combat vehicles used as transports and mobile weapons platforms. Each unit has its own artificial intelligence and typically displays a childlike personality despite behaving professionally in the field. They can walk or roll at high speed, cling to walls and ceilings, jump long distances, use thermoptic camouflage, and carry substantial weaponry. Their memories are synchronized every night, leaving each unit with the group's combined experience.
Story spoilers
Despite that synchronization, individual Tachikoma develop distinct personalities, with curiosity identified as the force that preserves their individuality. Later, three surviving units abandon civilian assignments to help the Major and Batou after most of the others are confined or dismantled for study.
