Story spoilers
Sun has had extraordinary powers since childhood. After her mother Saria becomes ill, people blame Sun and call her cursed; Forte befriends her and later comforts her after Saria dies. In the sequel, Sun and Forte are said to have passed and are contestants in the Advanced Magical Exams. Near the end they fail those exams, and whether they ever pass them is left unknown. The first series' epilogue leaves Sun and Forte together, though whether they marry is never stated.
