Character profile
Spielberger
シュピールベルガーBiography
Spielberger is a Waffen-SS officer from Stuttgart assigned to guard the painting The Twelve Knights Led by Brunhilda. He secures passage aboard U-1324 as it leaves Kiel, sharing the submarine with Lt. Col. Matsuda while rarely leaving his quarters. Unlike the crew, he openly expresses doubt that continued attacks can change the war's outcome.
Story spoilers
After a U.S. Navy destroyer depth-charges U-1324 and traps it on the ocean floor, Spielberger reveals that his mission is to preserve the painting until the Nazis return to power. An argument with Captain Ahbe ends with Spielberger shooting Ahbe twice in the head. He kills three crewmen who rush in afterward before being shot himself.
