In the previous timeline, Sion condemns Mia as an incompetent ruler, supports the revolutionary army, and attends her execution. In volume 2 of the light novel, his judgment of Mia is explained as coming from her public behavior and other people's reports rather than direct understanding. Ludwig later refuses to work for Sion, believing that an ideal monarch who never makes mistakes probably would not understand Mia's feelings or how hard she tried.
