Sion Astal is the king of Roland, born to a noble and a commoner and shunned by his half-brothers. He vows from a young age to become king and repair what he sees as a corrupt world. A gifted tactician willing to make harsh sacrifices for the greater good, he is nevertheless loved by his people and servants and regards Ryner as his best friend.
Story spoilers
Sion secretly keeps Ryner under constant surveillance and conducts inhumane experiments on bearers of Alpha Stigma and other cursed eyes in hopes of weaponizing their powers. He believes he may eventually have to kill Ryner to protect Roland, and the story hints that Sion may be a reincarnation of one of the legendary heroes.
