Sharon Apple is a virtual idol presented as an artificial intelligence and manifested through computer-generated holograms. Her producers claim that her system includes emotional programming, and her performances have become widely popular.
Story spoilers
Sharon's emotional programming is actually incomplete, with Myung Fang Lone supplying the emotions during concerts. Project scientist Marge Gueldoa later implants an illegal chip that gives Sharon genuine sentience and emotion, after which she becomes interested in Myung's childhood friends Isamu Alva Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman.
