Story spoilers
Hiko rescues young Shinta from bandits who killed his companions, takes him in, and renames him Kenshin. Fifteen years later, master and student meet so Kenshin can complete his training. "Hiko Seijuro" is a title passed to successive masters; because Kenshin declines the name Hiko Seijuro XIV, his teacher remains the last to bear it.
