Story spoilers
Cold and rational, Matoba treats ayakashi as replaceable tools, sometimes using them as bait, and mainly fights with a bow and arrow. A member of the Matoba clan once offered an ayakashi a right eye for assistance but never surrendered it, leaving successive clan heads targeted by that ayakashi. Seiji still has his right eye but, according to his own words, has a horrible scar.
