Story spoilers
In the third century BC, Rien traveled east with her husband Jofuku in search of the Elixir of Life. Their experiments in Taoism and immortality led Rien to create a remotely controlled clone of herself, followed by Mei, as well as six fabricated newborns who together became the Tensens. After Jofuku's death, Rien formed Lord Tensen and committed herself to reviving him.
