Biography
Ren Souma is Akito's mother and was originally a maid in the Souma household. She wins the affection of family head Akira by recognizing his loneliness and treating him with kindness rather than merely as the head of the clan.
Story spoilers
When Ren becomes pregnant, she fears the baby will replace her in Akira's heart and insists the child be raised as male. Akira's death deepens the hostility between Ren and Akito, and Ren repeatedly attacks Akito's belief in the bond with the Juunishi.
