Story spoilers
During his last year at Yumenosaki Academy, Rei had become unnaturally distant and closed off as a means of self-preservation. Post-Repayment Festival, he becomes able to move forward and reconcile those extremes within himself. Separately, the account says that as time passes he rediscovers his humanity through UNDEAD and later Ritsu; by the Repayment Festival, his immortal-vampire persona has broken down and he is able to accept himself as human.
