Story spoilers
Qifrey's grudge against the Brimmed Hats stems from childhood, when they took his memories and right eye and left him trapped in a coffin beneath a tree. He was rescued by members of the Magic Security Council and Sage Beldarut, later becoming Beldarut's pupil. His search for a solution to his lost memories and eye remains unresolved because it would require forbidden magic.
