Phantom F. Harlock I

In the Arcadia feature's recollection, Phantom is initially unable to crest the Owen-Stanley peaks while traveling toward Rabaul. He makes a second attempt after jettisoning excess fuel and leaving only enough for ten more minutes of flight. Near the tallest peak, he sees a ghostly apparition of a woman's face called the Owen-Stanley Witch. Although some interpretations say Phantom dies during the attempt, that reading conflicts with his survival and later account of the exploit in his book.
