Biography
Oscar de Jarjayes is a daughter of the Royal Guards commander, raised by her father as a boy so she can succeed him in command. At fourteen, she is assigned to protect Marie Antoinette. Although she dresses in men's clothes, Oscar is open about being female and uses her military position to gain freedoms unavailable to court ladies.
Story spoilers
Oscar dislikes court intrigues but stays at court out of loyalty to her father and Marie Antoinette. She later falls in love with Fersen, whose own love is for Marie Antoinette.
