Story spoilers

Born with unusual allergies and illnesses, Nico was more than likely used as an unwitting drug courier. Repeated medical confinement and escape attempts increase his sentence, while experimentation at an unknown point in time damages his ability to limit his own strength, requiring medication to protect his body. After reaching Nanba Prison, its medical care gives him little desire to escape.
