Nekota can seem distant because he is not good at talking about himself, but he is actually laid-back, calm and able to get along with his classmates. He is caring and observant enough to notice when Mikki is struggling. At home, he cooks for himself, his younger sister Meguru and their father, who works late.
Nekota does not realize that Mikki sees his face as that of a cat.
Story spoilers
Although Mikki initially unsettles him by staring at and following him, the two gradually become close, and Nekota develops romantic feelings for her.
