Nate River

Nate River, better known as Near, is a main character in Death Note and the younger of L's two successors raised at Wammy's House. Compared with his rival Mello, Near is calm, methodical, and inclined to treat investigations like complex puzzles. His intelligence contrasts with limited social ease, and he frequently works while playing with toys or twisting strands of his hair. Near greatly respects L and models much of his own approach to solving cases on L's methods.
