Biography

Nadia la Arwall is a fourteen-year-old orphan who wears a mysterious pendant and knows little about her origins, though she suspects a connection to Africa. Raised unhappily in a circus, she distrusts adults, fiercely opposes killing, and follows a strict vegetarian philosophy. Beneath her stubborn temper, Nadia is deeply insecure and afraid of betrayal.

As her feelings for Jean deepen, Nadia gradually learns more about respect, friendship, love, and faith. In the epilogue, she and Jean are married and have a child.
