Murao Mima is a pioneering roboticist whom Key describes both as her "Creator" and her grandfather. His efforts to build a robot capable of moving by its own will change after he meets Tomiko and her Geist in Mamio Valley.
Story spoilers
Tomiko and Mima's daughter Toyoko supplies him with a liquid manifestation of supernatural power that he uses as fuel for his robots. Hoping to spare her daughter Tokiko the same fate, Toyoko asks Mima to suppress Tokiko's supernatural abilities. He hides the extracted gel inside Tokiko, but the procedure also suppresses her human consciousness, leading Key to believe she is one of Mima's robots.
