Motoi Yajima is a social worker at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare who manages Yukari couples alongside Kagetsu Ichijou. He is married but unhappy with his partner and has gone two years without calling his wife.
Story spoilers
Motoi and Kagetsu attended Kasugayama High together. Their relationship ended on Kagetsu's sixteenth birthday after he refused to commit to marrying her so she could reject her assigned partner, a decision he continues to regret.
