Story spoilers

Those conflicting emotions eventually make her an important figure in Camelot's fall.

Mordred is actually a woman created in secret by Morgan le Fay as a homunculus clone of King Arthur. Raised with the desire to usurp Arthur and claim the throne as the rightful heir, Mordred is rejected when the King refuses to recognize her. In Fate/Apocrypha, she is Kairi Shishigou's Saber-class Servant in the Red Faction.
