Story spoilers

Years earlier, pressure over becoming the family heir leaves Masato despairing until he hears a girl singing with children on a snowy day and is inspired to pursue life as an idol. The girl is later revealed to have been Haruka. His father allows him to attend Saotome Academy for only one year before taking over the family business, and part of Masato's resentment toward Ren comes from envy of Ren's greater freedom.
