Maria Kurenai is a distant relative of Shizuka Hio with a sickly body and an apparent fondness for Ichiru. She once mistakes Zero for Ichiru.
Story spoilers
Maria later asks that Ichiru be told she wants to see him again. She allows Shizuka to possess her body in exchange for the promise of drinking Shizuka's blood to strengthen herself, but Shizuka's death prevents that bargain from being fulfilled. Maria later returns to her family, witnesses Kaname destroy the Vampire Council, spreads the news, and eventually returns to Cross Academy after the Night Class is reassembled.
