Mamimi Samejima is a truant high-school student who carries a camera, smokes frequently, and seems disconnected from ordinary reality. She is an outsider who apparently has a troubled family background and was once the girlfriend of Tasuku, who had saved her from a school fire.
Story spoilers
Mamimi is implied to have caused that fire herself and later channels her destructive impulses through a Medical Mechanica terminal core she names Ta-Kun. She feels genuine affection for Naota but cannot return his romantic feelings, and leaves Mabase to become a professional photographer.
