Makie Otono-Tachibana is a master swordswoman regarded as Anotsu's equal and is in love with him. Her weapon is Haru-no-Okina, a double-bladed three-section staff concealed inside a hollowed-out shamisen.
Story spoilers
Born into a samurai family, Makie and her mother are cast out after her older brother commits seppuku following the revelation of her exceptional talent and his inability to defeat her. She later defeats but spares Manji, tries to abandon her sword skill, and eventually returns to protect a weakening Anotsu from pursuers.
