Biography
Mai Kujaku begins as a self-absorbed duelist motivated by prize money, personal satisfaction, and power. She is deeply lonely, initially convincing herself that she needs no friends and treating her Harpie Lady cards as the closest thing to companionship.
Story spoilers
Meeting Yugi Muto and his friends changes Mai's outlook, and she seems to start caring more about her friends and the deeper meaning of the game. Her loneliness later resurfaces, but she eventually appears to recover her self-esteem and pride as a true duelist.
