His attempts at villainy repeatedly produce the opposite impression: long-term plans aim to strengthen and develop his fiefdom, the Empire's nobility often looks far worse by comparison, and chance makes him seem benevolent and just.

Even Liam's desire for gold appears unusual because gold has comparatively little monetary value in his new world beside metals such as mithril and adamantium.
