Biography
Kyouko Honda is Tohru's mother and a former gang leader once known as the Red Butterfly. When she was young she skipped classes, clashed with her family, and was eventually disowned, but she later left the gang after falling in love with Katsuya Honda. They married and had Tohru together.
Story spoilers
After Katsuya dies from illness, Kyouko becomes overwhelmed by grief and neglects Tohru, nearly taking her own life before returning home and resolving never to abandon her daughter again. She then raises Tohru herself and also cares for Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima.
