Kirie Goshima is a schoolgirl in Kurouzucho who grows alarmed by the obsessive behavior of her boyfriend Shuichi Saito's father, particularly his fixation on spiral patterns.
Story spoilers
Shuichi's father later kills himself inside a washing machine, and his cremated remains form a vast cloud over the town. The spiral obsession spreads to Kirie's father and other residents as people throughout Kurouzucho begin physically transforming into spiral creatures.
