Kenji Makabe

Kenji Makabe is one of Mutta's fellow astronaut-program applicants and becomes his friend almost immediately after learning they are the same age. Dedicated, calm and supportive, he often encourages Mutta and is usually seen smiling in formal attire. He lives with his wife and daughter.
Story spoilers
Kenji met his wife in college and traveled with her before they settled down. Escaping work in a little corner of a big facility helped motivate his astronaut ambitions, and after the program begins he and his wife have another daughter.
