Kaoruko Yamada is Renko's relentlessly upbeat assistant, constantly trying to translate Renko's angry outbursts into something more tactful. She also plays a central role in many of Renko's inventions, often functioning as the brains behind whatever device is needed.

Kaoruko is eventually revealed to be an android, explaining why she interfaces so easily with Renko's technology.
