Kaito Doumoto is the son of two musicians, an avid surfer, and Lucia's love interest. He is also devoted to the mermaid who saved him from a shipwreck seven years earlier.
Story spoilers
Kaito does not realize that the mermaid he loves is Lucia. Later events reveal that his apparently human nature hides distinctly non-human qualities.
