Joichiro Nishi is a middle-school veteran of the Gantz world who has already spent more than a year there when the story begins. Selfish and Social Darwinist in outlook, he is reluctant to explain Gantz directly, instead maintaining a website that shares information without violating its prohibition on informing outsiders.
Story spoilers
Nishi first entered Gantz after falling to his death from an apartment roof while fleeing police after shoplifting. He is later killed during the Tanaka/Suzuki Alien mission, spends six months in Gantz's memory banks, and is revived by Kaze at Kurono's request. After severe bullying at school, Nishi kills nearly all of his classmates and later survives a confrontation with armed forces only because Gantz summons the Hunters for another mission.
